Scientists have created a new open-source system called Dob-e that can teach a robot how to do common household tasks like laundry and sweeping.
The Dob-E system was trained using data collected from real households. A team of researchers at New York University is behind this system that teaches a robot to do housework. The main tools are a stick and an iPhone to help pick up the trash.
Data was collected in 22 homes in New York by training the stick to open doors, turn on lights, and put tissue papers in the waste bin. Leral Pinto, a computer science researcher at New York University, said the hope is that as more data is collected, Dob-E will be able to work accurately without having to show examples when viewing a new home.
