Increasingly, robotics practices are gaining relevance as an educational tool in Brazil, stimulating innovation, creativity and experimentation in the school context. According to data from the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics, 26.7% of Brazilian public and private schools offer some activity related to robotics. The growth curve, although steep, shows that there is potential for greater expansion cycles in the short term. And classroom learning has been boosted by student participation in national and international competitions.

An example of a successful initiative takes place in the state of Pernambuco, through the partnership between the Edson Mororó Moura Institute of Technology (ITEMM) and the Federal University of Pernambuco (UFPE). This year, members of the RobôCIn team, from UFPE, were two-time champions in the SSL (Small Size League) modality of RoboCup 23. The competition was held in the city of Bordeaux, France, and included participants from different countries around the world.

As ITEMM has been a partner of UFPE’s CIn for some years, providing consultancy for students who are part of the RobôCIn team, students are able to experience a true exchange of knowledge in the area of innovation, contributing to the advancement of the project developed by the students over the years.

“We seek to promote education combined with innovation and technology projects. This work that we do together with UFPE students, with the ITEMM team acting as consultants for the RobôCIn team, proves how encouragement and quality education can transform the reality of many young people. The result they obtained at RoboCup confirms the importance of this partnership”, highlights the executive director of ITEMM, Spartacus Pedrosa.

Advancement of robotics

According to a study by the International Federation of Robotics, published in World Robotics 2022 reportmore than 517 thousand industrial robots were installed in factories around the world in 2021 alone. The result shows an important growth of around 31% compared to the same period in 2020.

In Brazil, the Industries in the areas of food and beverages, metal mechanics and electronics are those that are most prominent in the use of automation. Given this scenario, with the expansion of opportunities for Brazilian students it will be possible to make them increasingly qualified in the job market. To this end, partnerships with companies that invest in differentiated education focused on new technologies, such as robotics, as well as incentives for national and international competitions, become a decisive factor in this advancement.
