Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico’s condition has stabilized but remains serious, the country’s Health Minister Zuzana Dolinkova said today Saturday (18.5.24), following the assassination attempt on the leader of the Central European country on Wednesday.
Slovakia’s deputy prime minister said Fico’s transfer to the capital Bratislava from the small-town hospital near the area where he was shot five times at point-blank range would not take place in the coming days.
There is no need to transfer Ficho’s official duties and there is some communication with the prime minister, Deputy Prime Minister Robert Kalinak told reporters outside the hospital where Ficho is being treated.
Fitzo underwent a two-hour operation yesterday, Friday, which raised hopes of his recovery. The attack sent shockwaves across Europe and concerns regarding the polarized political situation in the country of 5.4 million people.
Slovakian police have charged Juraj Tsindula with attempted murder.
Local news media say the 71-year-old is a former mall security guard and the author of three collections of poetry.
