WASHINGTON.— This Friday, at a press conference, the independent candidate for the presidency of the united states Robert F. Kennedy Jr. confirmed that he is suspending his campaign for the White House and offered his support to the candidate republican, Donald Trump.
This was announced by the politician, son of Robert F. Kennedy and nephew of the former president John F. Kennedyboth assassinated in the 1960s, and who, according to polls, had less than 5% of voter support.
“I’m not ending my campaign, I’m just suspending it and not ending it. My name will remain on the ballot in most states,” he said, offering an unclear message.
Although he had not called for a direct vote for Trump before finishing his remarks, as is usually done when someone retires, he did say that he gave him his support.
“Three major reasons led me to enter this race in the first place, and these are the main reasons that persuaded me to leave the Democratic Party and run as an independent, and now to give my support to President Trump,” he said.
Despite his low representation in the polls, his support for Trump could have some relevance in the final result of a close election in which the former president will compete on November 5 against the current vice president and Democratic candidate. Kamala Harris.
Criticism of the Democratic Party
Kennedy Jr. made this announcement in Phoenix, Arizona, the state where Trump is holding a campaign event this Friday afternoon, which could be attended by the politician, who in his speech today made a fierce criticism of the Democratic Party in which his father and uncle served, whom he mentioned on numerous occasions.
“I left that party in October because it has so dramatically departed from the core values I grew up with and has become the party of war, censorship, corruption, Big Pharma, Big Tech, Big Farming and Big Fortune. They abandoned democracy by cancelling the primaries to hide the cognitive decline of the sitting president,” he said.
In an “honest” system, with “open debates, fair primaries, regularly scheduled debates and truly independent media, untainted by government propaganda and censorship, and with a system of non-partisan courts and electoral boards, everything would be different” and “I would have won the elections,” the politician said.
His presidential campaign did not begin in the Republican Party but in the Democratic Party. In April of last year he presented himself as the alternative to the president, Joe Bidenand announced his aspirations to be the Democratic candidatea decision that did not sit well with members of his own family, who harshly criticized him.
In October, however, he announced that he was leaving the Party to run for the White House as an independent, as an alternative for those who were unhappy with traditional politicians, he said at the time.
All this until she began flirting with the Republican following the assassination attempt on Trump (2017-2021) in July.
Trump thanks Robert Kennedy Jr. for his support
During the Republican National Convention held that month in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, a recording of a phone call between them was leaked, in which Trump requested Kennedy’s support and discussed the possibility of Kennedy joining a future administration.
In an interview this week, Trump said he would be “honoured” to receive Kennedy Jr’s endorsement, describing him as “a very smart guy, a very good person”.
On Friday, former US President and Republican candidate for the White House, Donald Trump, thanked Robert F. Kennedy Jr. for the electoral support he gave him after suspending his presidential campaign minutes earlier.
“I want to thank Bobby. It’s a very nice thing he did and it’s really important. He’s a great guy, respected by everyone,” Trump said at a campaign event in Las Vegas, Nevada, United States.
The former president (2017-2021), who has another campaign event in Arizona tonight, announced that he will speak more about Kennedy Jr.’s support during that event.
“I’m going to talk about that. We’re leaving right after this. We’re going to go to Arizona. We’ll talk about that and a lot of other things as well,” Trump said.
