Robert Downey Jrwho recently released a Netflix documentary about his father Robert Downey Sr, responded to recent reviews of Quentin Tarantino on how the “marvelisation d’Hollywood” killed off the modern movie star by making his superheroes, not actors, the focus of their respective movies. “I think our opinions on these issues say a lot about us. I think we’re in a time and place that I unwittingly contributed to, where intellectual property has taken precedence over principle and personality. But It’s a double-edged sword”, he told Deadline. The actor feels that arguing over which type of film held the most artistic merit was simply a “waste of time”. “We’re all one community. There’s enough room for everything. And thank goodness there’s Top Gun: Maverick and Avatar: The Way of the Water. That’s all I have to say. We we need the big stuff to make room for movies like Armageddon Time.”

The film industry “will change again”

“Before we disparage each other – do your own renewal and see if that doesn’t change your mind a bit”said the star ofIron Man. “Reinvent yourself before you decide someone else doesn’t know what they’re doing or something is stopping you from doing your best, or that one thing is better than another.” In fact, Downey Jr thinks the film industry “will change again” in the future. “That’s just where we are”he concluded. “And accepting that and being grateful to be able to participate is the right place to start.”

Criticism from all sides about Marvel

Interviewed by the Los Angeles Times on the occasion of the promotion of his new book Cinema Speculation, Quentin Tarantino said he’s not looking to join the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) roster of directors, and compared his fellow directors who have done so to “mercenaries”. “You have to be a mercenary to do these things. I’m not a skilled worker. I’m not looking for work”, the famous filmmaker clearly stated. Before him, the words of Martin Scorsese were also controversial. “I don’t watch them. I tried, you know? But it’s not cinema”said the filmmaker.
