At the beginning of this week, it was announced that the Russo Brothers and Robert Downey Jr. will return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Although fans were excited about this return, what has caught the most attention is the impressive amount they will receive as payment.
At Comic-Con in San Diego, Downey Jr. confirmed that he will return to the franchise to play Dr. Doom, one of his greatest villains, in the upcoming movie, Avengers: Doomsday.
The actor surprised everyone in attendance by appearing among a group of hooded figures and removing his mask. “I enjoy playing complicated characters,” Downey Jr. told the audience.
Downey Jr. appeared in 10 Marvel franchise films playing Iron Man, starting in 2008. His last film with Marvel was Avengers: Endgame in 2019.
On the other hand, the Russo brothers, who directed Captain America: The Winter Soldier in 2014, Captain America: Civil War in 2016, followed by Avengers: Infinity War (2018) and Avengers: Endgame in 2019, will also be returning to Marvel.
How much will the Russo brothers and Robert Downey Jr. be paid?
According to Variety, Marvel is offering 80 million dollars (about 76 thousand Chilean pesos) to Anthony and John Russo to direct the next two films in the franchise: Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars.
But the truly impressive figure is what was offered to Downey Jr. The outlet reports that he has been offered “much more” to return for the two films.
The actor has become the “highest-paid” member of the MCU, earning between 500 and 600 million dollars (around 500 billion Chilean pesos) throughout his career in Marvel to date. The outlet also reported that, according to sources, Downey Jr. will only return to the MCU under the understanding that the Russos will direct.
The amount has caused a significant impact as it sets a precedent in payments to actors.
