The spouse of former Prime Minister Robert Bourassa, Andrée Simard, died at the age of 90, 26 years following her husband.
Ms. Simard was, alongside her husband, at the forefront of many of the major events in modern Quebec, such as the launch of hydroelectric development in James Bay, the Oka crisis, the October or even at the Meech Lake Accord.
Remember that Robert Bourassa was prime minister from 1970 to 1976, then from 1985 to 1994.
The two companions were married in Sorel in August 1958. They had two children, François and Michelle Bourassa.
“It is with great sadness that we learned of the death of Mrs. Andrée Simard, wife of the late Mr. Robert Bourassa. She will have contributed to building Quebec as we know it alongside one of the greatest prime ministers in our history,” commented the interim leader of the Liberal Party, Marc Tanguay.
“On behalf of the entire Liberal team, I offer my most sincere condolences to the family and loved ones of Ms. Simard, especially her children François and Michelle. With all my affection, I wish them courage through this difficult time,” he added.
