Robeilys Peinado, a 26-year-old Venezuelan pole vaulter, feels very satisfied for having overcome injuries to be able to compete in the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, which will come to an end this Sunday with the closing ceremony.

For the native of Ciego de Avila, who finished tenth in the women’s pole vault competition held this week at the Stade de France in Saint-Denis, performing on French soil was an honour.

“I thank God for allowing me to be here, (with) another completed cycle that, although it started with stumbles, I was able to reach the end, we did it again. We reached the famous rings, we reached the most important event in sport, we reached the Olympic Games once again,” she wrote on her Instagram account (@robeilys_ruby).

Gratitude

Peinado, who participated for the second time in the great planetary event after appearing in Tokyo 2020 – in Rio 2016 she suffered a physical problem that prevented her from participating in the pole vault – thanked her coaches for preparing her to be able to show her talent in the Paris 2024 athletics tournament. She hopes that all her instructors will accompany her to design plans to excel in future international competitions, as she will always have the priority of leaving the name of Venezuela high.

“Thanks to my team and to those who in one way or another contributed their ‘grain of sand’, thanks to those who supported me when everything fell apart in 2022, to those who stood firm and motivated me to continue, thank you family and friends,” added the Creole who showed off her knowledge of French to say goodbye to the City of Light.

“Merci beaucoup (thank you very much) Paris,” he wrote.
