Roads closed and damage between Friuli and Veneto –

The wave of bad weather that hit the Northeast during the night between Tuesday and Wednesday caused three landslides that interrupted the main mountain routes connecting Friuli and Veneto. The stretch of the Fvg regional roads 355 and 465 and the former provincial road 22 that straddles the two regions was closed due to debris on the roadway. The only road that remained accessible was the one that passes through Forni di Sopra and reaches the province of Belluno. The reclamation of the roads has begun and could be completed in a couple of days, but there is the unknown factor of the storms forecast between the afternoon and the evening.

The first landslide occurred in Sappada, in the province of Udine, in Cadore, halfway between the Carnic Alps and the Dolomites, near the Rio Acquatona: the roadway was invaded by a large mass of debris, fortunately no vehicles were passing at the time. Another landslide affected the regional road 465 at midnight, interrupted in the Rio Bianco area, in the upper Pesarina Valley, with traffic interrupted to and from Pradibosco-Pian di Casa, Sauris and Cadore. It is estimated that the material to be removed is about 3 thousand cubic meters. During the night, there were about thirty interventions by firefighters and volunteers from local detachments in the Belluno area.

On the Veneto side, the Comelico area was hit the hardest. In Sopalù, in the municipality of Comelico Superiore, 20 people were isolated for about 4 hours. For today, the Civil Protection has issued a yellow alert for thunderstorms in Lombardy (Low central-western plain, Upper eastern plain, Central plain, Eastern lakes and pre-Alps, Pavia Apennines, Lower eastern plain, Lower central-eastern plain, Lower western plain, Milan Hydraulic Node) and Piedmont (Turin plain and hills, Cuneo plain, Belbo and Bormida, Tanaro Valley, Northern plain) and Alto Adige where there is also a risk of hydrogeological damage. For this afternoon-evening, the Civil Protection of Emilia-Romagna predicts “strong thunderstorms with possible associated effects and damage” in the central-eastern areas of the region.
