– Only with training can you stay sharp, as stated in a press release from the North Jutland Police on Friday. It shows that several times a year the police train the handling of complex incidents – accidents, attacks and the like – together with other authorities.
Under the joint name Tordenskjold, there have already been several collaborative exercises, and the next one is therefore on Wednesday. In addition to the police, it involves the National Emergency Management Agency and the health sector.
The exercise takes place on Thistedvej, which will be closed to traffic at Vustholmvej from the west and Vust Møllevej from the east. It is approximately between 2pm and 11pm. There will be a detour at the site, but road users on the section between Fjerritslev and Thisted or Hanstholm must expect a little extra driving time.
Claus Dahl Olesen, incident leader and the police’s training officer, hopes for tolerance on the part of road users. He points out that the exercise benefits the citizens:
– The purpose of the exercise is to train interdisciplinary management and coordination between the National Emergency Management Agency, the health sector and the police at a major accident site and, in addition, to train the authorities’ staff to cooperate with each other to save lives and deal with real-life major accidents and incidents, as Claus Dahl Olesen puts it.
The focal point of the exercise on Wednesday is a fictitious traffic accident, which will be quite visible, and there will of course be a number of emergency vehicles. In addition, there are several “unexpected” incidents, all of which must strengthen the cooperation until the day it becomes serious.
