A series of simultaneous construction sites in the Bienne region is causing discontent among motorists as well as commuters in the Bernese Jura. Several voices denounce a lack of coordination.
Biel station is currently under construction. It was closed throughout this weekend and will be closed once more at the end of this week. Of course, public transport users can take replacement buses, but journey times have been extended.
At the same time, the renovation of the roads from Bienne, towards Péry or even La Neuveville, complicates the situation.
Monday, in the 12:45 p.m., the mayor of Sonceboz, Claude-Alain Wüthrich, questions the coordination between the different federal authorities: “Are OFROU and the CFF working together to anticipate things, to find solutions and have better planning?”
Do once morest bad luck with a good heart
According to Jean-Philippe Schmidt, spokesperson for the CFF, the major authority coordinates regularly with FEDRO. Part of the work might be postponed over time, in order to have a minimal impact on customers. “But it’s true that we can see the glass half empty or half full.” Because according to the spokesperson, the Confederation invests money “for the good of the region and its inhabitants”, he argues.
Patrick Linder, director of the public economic chamber of Grand Chasseral, recommends that the population plan for the future, “investment in these infrastructures ultimately promises to improve these flows, and without doubt, it is a good new (…), but it goes through some small bottlenecks”.
Residents of the region will therefore have to remain patient, since the railway works will last until the end of 2024, while the road renovations will last until the end of 2026.
