RNF MotoGP Team Loses Grid Place for 2024 Season: MotoGP Announcement and Reactions

2023-11-27 11:52:51

Two days following denied rumors of poor financial health and ruled out the prospect of a buyer, the RNF team has lost its place on the MotoGP grid! The championship’s governing bodies announced this decision on Monday, the day following the last Grand Prix of the season.

“The MotoGP selection committee, comprising members of the FIM, IRTA and Dorna Sports, has decided not to select CryptoDATA RNF MotoGP Team for the 2024 season”announces MotoGP in a press release. “Repeated infractions and violations of the participation agreement affecting the public image of MotoGP have made this decision necessary.”

No details have been given on the nature of the facts alleged once morest RNF but MotoGP’s decision seems irrevocable since the championship has already expressed its desire to keep as many machines on the grid next season and to find a new satellite team , who will in turn field Aprilias.

“The selection committee will analyze requests for a new independent team, using Aprilia machines, to join the MotoGP category grid in 2024”specifies the announcement made this Monday.

Arriving in the premier category in 2019 under the name Sepang Racing Team, the team founded by Razlan Razali enjoyed success the following year, thanks to Fabio Quartararo et Franco Morbidelli, but it lost the support of the Sepang circuit and its main sponsor, the oil company Petronas, two years ago. Razali took over the team before the arrival of CryptoDATA as majority shareholder, at 60%, at the end of 2022. At the start of the weekend in Valencia, Razali announced his departure, without going through the official team communication channels.

On Saturday, RNF claimed to have been “notified of any breach of contractual obligations” towards the championship and not having “no debt” towards Aprilia, which supplied him with his motorcycles this year, replacing Yamaha.

RNF has not yet reacted to the decision taken by MotoGP. In the press release following the Valencia GP on Sunday, Razali said he was “certain that there [aurait] a good plan for the 2024 season” within the team, which also announced a new sponsor this Monday morning.

With the announcement made by MotoGP, the presence of RNF motorcycles at the Valencia test is naturally called into question. Alone Raul Fernandez was supposed to ride on Tuesday, Miguel Oliveira being hurt. With both riders under contract with Aprilia, it is logical to imagine that the brand will align them with its new satellite team, if the process mentioned by MotoGP were to take its course.
