Riyadh.. An Arab-Islamic meeting demands “effective” sanctions on Israel

Riyadh – An Arab-Islamic meeting held in the Saudi capital, Riyadh, yesterday, Sunday, called on the international community to impose “effective” sanctions on Israel, including stopping arms exports to it, “in response to its violation of international laws and war crimes” that it is committing in Gaza and the West Bank.

This came in a speech by Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan, who chaired the meeting of the ministerial committee in charge of the extraordinary joint Arab-Islamic summit on developments in the Gaza Strip, which was held in November 2023, according to a statement by the Saudi Foreign Ministry.

According to the statement, the meeting discussed “mechanisms to intensify joint Arab and Islamic action to reach an immediate halt to the war on the Gaza Strip, and to ensure the protection of civilians in accordance with international humanitarian law.”

He also discussed “delivering adequate and sustainable humanitarian aid to all parts of the Gaza Strip, in addition to continuing all efforts aimed at international recognition of the independent Palestinian state.”

The attendees discussed “working to take the necessary steps to implement the two-state solution (Palestinian and Israeli), and to recognize the State of Palestine on the borders of June 4, 1967, with East Jerusalem as its capital.”

They stressed that “the Gaza Strip is an integral part of the occupied Palestinian territory, and they categorically reject any attempts to displace the Palestinian people outside their land, and any military operation in the Palestinian city of Rafah.”

The attendees stressed “the need for the international community to impose effective sanctions on Israel, including stopping the export of weapons to it, in response to its violation of international law and international humanitarian law and the war crimes it commits in Gaza and the occupied West Bank.”

They also expressed their concern regarding “the measures taken once morest peaceful demonstrators in Western countries to demand an end to the war in Gaza and the grave Israeli crimes and violations once morest the Palestinians.”

The Riyadh meeting was attended by foreign ministers: Egypt Sameh Shukri, Jordan Ayman Al-Safadi, Turkey Hakan Fidan, Secretary-General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation Hussein Ibrahim Taha, Secretary of the Executive Committee of the Palestine Liberation Organization and Minister of Civil Affairs Hussein Al-Sheikh, and Minister of State in the Qatari Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Muhammad Al-Khulaifi.

Since last October 7, the Israeli army has been waging a devastating war on Gaza with American support that left regarding 112,000 dead and wounded, most of them children and women, which required Tel Aviv to be put on trial before the International Court of Justice on the grounds of “genocide.”

Israel continues its devastating war on Gaza despite the issuance of an immediate ceasefire resolution by the UN Security Council, and despite its appearance before the International Court of Justice on charges of committing “genocide.”
