After tying 2-2 against Lanús at the Monumental and leaving a pale image for its fans, River now lost and once again could not find the way. Its executioner was Godoy Cruz of Daniel Oldrá who turned it around in a flurry, won 2-1 and achieved its first victory in the championship. The Millionaire did not find the way, ended up playing with three nines, and its fans, neutral in Mendoza, disapproved with whistles and chants.

Borja’s goal

River started well, but it didn’t last long and they lost their momentum. At 11 minutes into the match, Miguel Borja, the owner of the goals, opened the scoring and put Millo ahead. He had already warned in the minute with the first dangerous play that Petroli blocked. A minute after the first goal, Altamira had a great chance to equalize, because Armani, Borja and Paulo Díaz also got in each other’s way, but it went wide.

The Colombian striker ran and took advantage of the deep balls. At 20 he had the chance to make the second after winning the position of the defender, but the ex-River player appeared in the Tomba goal again. Then the Mendoza team’s flurry appeared, which had a name: Vicente Poggi. River suffered from the aerial balls and at 26 and 28 Tomba turned it around on 25. At the end of the first half there was more action, first with a tremendous save by Franco Armani, who would have a lot of work in the second, to deflect a shot by Fernández. In the extra time, Pablo Solari claimed a penalty for a handball in the area by Luciano. But Herrera did not charge it, because it was after a rebound, and the VAR did not call for a review.

The chant of River fans against Demichelis’ team

For the second half, Demichelis brought on Nacho Fernández and Adam Bareiro for Aliendro and Solari. But apart from a shot seven minutes into the second half by Nacho, River struggled to create danger and suffered more in their area. Franco Armani had to appear several times to avoid another fall from goal. Even Godoy Cruz deserved more comfort on the scoreboard for everything they had generated.

At the end of the match, the last fifteen minutes, the River fans who were able to go to Malvinas Argentinas as ‘neutral’ players got tired and started singing songs to show their displeasure, like the classic: “Players…”. For the last ten minutes, Micho decided to try adding people to the attack and took Mastantuono and Simón out for Ruberto and Casco. Even the three number nines together were not enough to rescue a draw. With the defeat consummated, that turned into whistles of disapproval for the team and the coaching staff.

Godoy Cruz vs. River: the whistles at the end of the match

With this victory, Godoy Cruz adds its first points in the Professional League and is a good start in the fight to get out of the bottom of the table. As for River, it added its third defeat and is in eighth place in the table with only ten points. Martín Demichelis decided to suspend the press conference.
