River Plate probably before the transfer of “exceptional player” Luis Suarez

Luis Suarez is on the verge of a transfer from Atletico Madrid to Argentinian giants River Plate. Spanish and Argentinian media unanimously report that the 35-year-old will join the Buenos Aires club. Completion should be reported as early as Monday or Tuesday.

Coach Marcelo Gallardo recently confirmed following Rivers’ 2-1 win over Lanus that promising talks were being held with two well-known players. When asked regarding Suarez, the successful coach said: “He’s an exceptional player who’s just recovering from a knee injury. We tried it. If he hadn’t shown enthusiasm, we wouldn’t be waiting for him now.”

Gallardo had already confirmed a personal conversation with the goalscorer a few days ago and emphasized that he had a “good relationship” with him.

Suarez is available on a free transfer as his contract at Atletico Madrid expires. There has been much speculation regarding the ex-Barca striker’s future in recent weeks. Among other things, he was under discussion as a new signing at his former club Ajax, Inter Miami and Aston Villa, the club of his former teammate Steven Gerrard.

Suarez made 45 competitive appearances for Atletico last season, scoring 13 goals. The big goal of the 132-time national player is to participate with Uruguay at the World Cup in Qatar at the end of the year.
