The Antwerp non-governmental organization River Cleanup is mobilizing around a hundred citizens for a cleaning action organized on Saturday afternoon in Liège, noted the Belga agency in the Boverie park.

On the occasion of the fifth edition of World Cleanup Day, volunteers are mobilizing on Saturday in some 191 countries to carry out cleaning operations in public spaces. In Belgium, it is the Antwerp NGO River Cleanup which organizes cleaning actions in Antwerp, Ghent and Liège. In the Cité ardente, the choice fell on manual cleaning of the banks of the Meuse, the Dérivation and the Ourthe, starting from the Boverie park. “Some 140 participants registered for the Liège operation. In particular, we want to raise awareness among the population about the problem of plastic thrown into nature, which ultimately ends up in waterways. Every year, more than 11 billion kilos of plastic end up in our seas and oceans, which constitutes an ecological disaster.“, explained organizer Noémie Requier, Saturday afternoon at the Belga agency.

The Liège operation began on Saturday around 2:00 p.m. and will end around 5:00 p.m. with the sharing of a snack between the participants, at the Parc de la Boverie.
