THE Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) revealed the benchmark price for receiving gratuities from former Kutai Kartanegara (Kukar) Regent Rita Widyasari. She received dollars for each metric ton of coal delivered in her area.
“RW (Rita Widyasari) as the Regent of Kukar at that time received gratification from several companies from the results of exploration in the form of metric tons of coal. It was worth between US$3.3 to the last one which was US$5 per metric ton,” said KPK Investigation Director Asep Guntur Rahayu in Jakarta, Saturday (6/7).
Asep was reluctant to detail the total amount of money Rita had received. However, each company sent millions of metric tons of coal in one trip.
“You can imagine that the company can produce millions of metric tons of exploration results,” said Asep.
The funds received were used by Rita to buy a number of items. The transaction was questioned because investigators considered it money laundering.
Previously, the KPK revealed evidence of Rita Widyasari’s gratification and money laundering case. A total of 104 vehicles were confiscated by investigators.

“The motorized vehicles consisted of 72 cars and 32 motorbikes,” said KPK spokesperson Tessa Mahardhika Sugiarto in a written statement, Sunday (9/6).
In this case, the KPK also seized Rita’s land and buildings spread across six locations. A number of rupiah and foreign currencies were also temporarily taken by investigators.
“The money in rupiah currency is worth Rp6.7 billion and in USD and other foreign currencies is worth a total of approximately Rp2 billion,” said Tessa.
The KPK strongly believes that Rita received gratification and money laundering during her tenure. Hundreds of documents and electronic evidence support the allegations. (P-5)
