Risk of hepatitis B and C infection: a fake Montreal acupuncturist under investigation

A Montrealer who is not recognized by the Order of Acupuncturists of Quebec would have carried out treatments involving a risk of infection with hepatitis B, hepatitis C and HIV for his patients, alerted the Regional Health Directorate (DRSP) of Montreal.

Mr. Dashdorj Bayasgalan, also known under the pseudonym Dr. BA, would offer treatments in the Côte-des-Neiges–Notre-Dame-de-Grâce district, according to the Order’s report.

Its clientele might have been exposed to acupuncture needles, cupping, or syringes which would be potentially contaminated, indicated the DRSP of Montreal.

“The reuse of needles as well as other poor practices relating to hygiene and asepsis explain the fact that the DRSP undertook to contact the people who had used the services of Mr. Bayasgalan,” said the Order by press release.

An investigation is underway by the DRSP of Montreal, following the report of the Order, which had already studied the file with its investigations department in illegal exercise.

People who might have been clients of this man should be tested for hepatitis B, hepatitis C and HIV for prevention. They can go to the Clic santé platform to make an appointment or by telephone 514-734-9911 at the local Côte-Saint-Luc service point.
