A study jointly conducted by the Zhejiang University School of Medicine in Hangzhou, China, and the University of Edinburgh in the UK found that the number of diagnosed cancers globally under the age of 50 has increased by nearly 80% in the past 30 years, mostly in Western countries.

The report pointed out that the number of early-onset cancer cases worldwide increased from 1.82 million in 1990 to 3.26 million in 2019, with the highest rates in North America, Western Europe and Oceania. More than 1 million people in this age group die from cancer each year, an increase of 27%, and it is expected to increase by another 21% by 2030.
