2023-08-07 04:42:00

According to the latest figures, 111 people are placed under police protection, including Prime Minister Alexander De Croo and his Minister of Justice Vincent Van Quickenborne via magistrates, judges or lawyers, reports La Dernier Heure on Monday, citing the latest figures communicated by the National Crisis Center.

In addition to the first two cities, other ministers have been the subject of surveillance in recent months, such as Annelies Verlinden, Elke Van Den Brandt or Philippe Henry.

“As soon as we receive information that a person is threatened in Belgium in the exercise of his functions, we meet with various partners, namely the police services and Ocam who will assess the seriousness of the threat” , explains Antoine Iseux, spokesperson for the National Crisis Center. “We then decide on specific security measures to be taken to keep these people safe.”

According to figures from the crisis center, 41 new files were opened this year, compared to 65 for the whole of 2022 and 81 in 2021.
