Sexually transmitted and blood-borne infections (STBBIs) wreak havoc on young people.
According to the doctor and founder of the Clinique l’Actuel in Montreal, Dr. Réjean Thomas, there has been a significant increase since the start of the pandemic.
“For all sorts of reasons, young people were at home, didn’t have much to do and weren’t afraid of COVID-19. […] We saw an explosion that continues,” he explained in an interview with the Noovo Info 17 bulletin.
He argues that gonorrhea, chlamydia and syphilis are the three most common STBBIs among young people.
And this would be explained in particular by the limitation of the condom and the lack of prevention
“It started in the early 2000s with the arrival of treatments for AIDS. The fact that there is no longer this scary disease and the fact that we don’t talk regarding it much. […] It’s quite amazing, the lack of knowledge that we see among young people at the level of STBBIs in the clinic, ”added Dr. Thomas on our airwaves.
