Recent research from the University of Edinburgh in Scotland revealed that the global number of new premature cancer cases and related deaths will increase by 31% and 21%, respectively, in 2030, and young people in their 40s will be most at risk of developing cancer, according to hindustantimes.

A team of researchers pointed out that cancer cases among people under the age of 50 increased by 79 percent over the past 30 years, and the most common cancers were trachea, prostate, lung, intestine and stomach, while the highest number of deaths was in breast cancers. The early onset of cancer had a much greater impact on women than on men, in terms of mortality and deterioration in health status.

The result of the study identified the types of cancers that usually affect people under the age of 50, although there is a belief among many that cancer is spread among the elderly, but the opposite has happened.

The study was conducted for cases of cancer patients in 204 countries to determine the health consequences associated with the disease, and the contributing risk factors for all those between the ages of 14 to 49 years.

In 2019, total new cancer diagnoses among people under the age of 50 were 1.82 million, the researchers said, an increase of 79% from the 1990 figure. Overall, breast cancer accounted for the largest number of these cases and associated deaths.

New cases of early-onset tracheal and prostate cancer also rose faster between 1990 and 2019, with estimated annual percentage changes of 2.28 percent and 2.23 percent, respectively, according to the study.

At the same time, the researchers found that liver cancer in its early stages decreased by an estimated 2.88% each year. They said more than a million people under the age of 50 died of cancer in 2019.

North America, Australia and Western Europe had the highest rates of early-onset cancer.

Low- and middle-income countries were also affected, with the highest death rates among people under 50 years of age in Oceania, Eastern Europe and Central Asia.

The study indicated that diets high in processed foods, low in fruit and milk, alcohol consumption and tobacco use are the main risk factors behind the most common types of cancer among people under the age of 50, in addition to physical inactivity, excess weight, and obesity. And high blood sugar.
