He may have already stung you this summer. The tiger mosquito is more and more present in France. The Centre-Val-de-Loire region is no exception. The Regional Health Agency (ARS), which monitors its development, indicates thatin 2022 “the number of municipalities colonized by the Aedes albopictus (tiger mosquito) has increased from 9 to 30”. Nine others might join this list, still according to the ARS. In Loir-et-Cher, the tiger mosquito has been spotted in Chambord, Saint-Aignan and Candé-sur-Beuvron.
Eure-et-Loir, the only department spared
Still according to the ARS, no commune of Eure-et-Loir is concerned or at least, there is not enough data for this department. It is also possible to participate in the monitoring of this insect. If we see one, we can report its presence via the website of the National Health Security Agency (ANSES). Another lesson, the tiger mosquito proliferates in several cities in the Centre-Val-de-Loire region: Bourges, Chateauroux, Tours, Montargis and Orleans.
Some reflexes to limit its proliferation
To avoid the multiplication of tiger mosquitoes, there are a few simple actions to apply. First, we must not forget that this insect breeds in water containers. We therefore think to empty cups, corks or flower pots. If this is not possible, we can “install mosquito nets on the rainwater tanks or put sand in the flower bowls”advise l’ARS. Nowadays, no disease transmission has been detected following a tiger mosquito bite. But if you have a fever or body aches, it is better to consult a doctor.
