This week, in Jemeppe-Sur-Meuse, the teachers of the municipal school in the center stopped work. The reason ? They denounce an attack committed by the mother of a child. And this is not the first fact of its kind.
It’s the beginning of October, and a teacher decides to confiscate a student’s cell phone because it’s banned in the school. The child quickly loses his calm. “When the cell phone was confiscated, he started to have a seizure“, testifies Christelle Corbaye, teacher. The tone rises again when the mother arrives, and the teacher’s mobile phone is thrown to the ground.
For the teachers, this is one incident too many. “My colleague is not well at all. I think she was shocked by the violence of the altercation.“, says Roxane Herbillon, teacher. “I don’t know if it’s society that wants this, but parents are finding it more and more difficult to express themselves calmly.” explains Ameline Lemineur, professor of philosophy and citizenship.
The parents, shocked, condemn the facts, “It’s not okay to attack teachers“, “This behavior is not acceptable.“, “I’m in the medical field and sometimes we get attacked too. But I didn’t know this was so much the case in schools“, they testify.
The attacked teacher filed a complaint with the police.
