The disease has killed 25 people in 16 provinces this year alone, he was quoted as saying by local media.

Cholnan Srikaew said he had asked provincial disease control committees to coordinate with health volunteers to search for possible mosquito breeding grounds and spray them with chemicals. He also ordered that community areas be frequently sprayed with mosquito repellent chemicals.

Meanwhile, Director-General of the Department of Disease Control Thongchai Keeratihuttayakorn said the death rate from dengue was much higher than those from influenza and COVID-19, reaching 0.14 per 100 cases, compared to 0.01 to 0.02 deaths per 100 influenza patients.

The Ministry of Public Health has allocated THB74.8 million ($2.6 million) for the distribution of mosquito repellent sprays or lotions to dengue patients, it said.

Thongchai Keeratihuttayakorn pointed out that if people protect themselves from mosquito bites, even for five days, they can save the ministry regarding THB219 million in treatment costs. – VNA
