One month before the holidays, covid cases are increasing in France. In its latest bulletin, Santé Publique France actually mentions an “increasing trend” for the week of November 20 to 26. The national agency notes vaccination coverage of 21.9% for people aged 65 and over.
Insufficient vaccination coverage
This is far from sufficient, believes Doctor Sibylle Bevilacqua, head of the infectious diseases department at the Nancy CHRU. Because if covid cases represent 1% of emergency room visits, they are no less serious. “These are elderly people for whom this sometimes ends badly, because it causes all the rest of their illness to decompensate. When you have lived until 80 years old with your problem of diabetes, hypertension or heart failure, finding yourself in the hospital because of covid is a shame.“
The most vulnerable people must therefore not let down their guard. “The virus is still there, it mutatesrecalls Thierry Pechey, president of the order of nurses in Meurthe-et-Moselle. For the moment we stay on Omicron, we tell ourselves that it is not dangerous, but tomorrow we do not know what it might mutate into. After Omicron, there is Pie in the Greek alphabet.”
It is for this reason that liberal nurses are considering opening new vaccination slots without an appointment with the Regional Health Agency and the metropolis. The weekend of January 5, 6 and 7 is planned. As for those who do not wish to be vaccinated or are not part of the at-risk population, they are invited to repeat the barrier gestures.
