In Bashkiria, since the beginning of 2023, the first case of mumps, or mumps, has been registered. For now, this episode is isolated, but the situation may change. As reported by the Rospotrebnadzor department for the republic, this case of mumps is imported.

Last year, one case of mumps was also detected in the republic. No cases of the disease were recorded in 2020 and 2021.

Mumps is an acute viral infection that affects the salivary glands and the central nervous system. The disease is transmitted by airborne droplets from people carrying the virus. Children aged 5 to 15 years are most susceptible to mumps. Children under 1 year of age rarely get sick. Isolated diseases and epidemic outbreaks usually occur between March and April.

The symptoms of mumps are not the most pleasant. It begins acutely: with fever, intoxication, pain when chewing and opening the mouth. Then the glands become inflamed. A contagious viral disease is also accompanied by fever, intoxication and enlargement of one or more salivary glands. Mumps only affects humans.

The disease is dangerous because it can cause complications, including otitis, meningitis, myocarditis, inflammation of the facial nerve, tonsillitis, polyarthritis, and also lead to infertility.

We previously wrote that 63 children in the republic suffer from cystic fibrosis. This is a severe hereditary disease in which the increased viscosity of mucus secreted by the digestive and respiratory organs critically disrupts their functioning and leads to the development of life-threatening conditions.

In Bashkiria, the incidence of a fatal disease among children has once more been recorded.
