The Delhi government is closely monitoring the coronavirus situation. Health Minister Saurabh Bhardwaj said that Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal would hold a review meeting on the matter on Friday. Bhardwaj also assured the people that there is no need to panic as the hospitalization rate is low.
The Health Minister on Thursday held a meeting on the coronavirus situation. Delhi has seen a spike in the number of new Covid cases in the last few days amid a sharp increase in the number of H3N2 influenza cases in the country. In the press conference following the meeting, Saurabh Bhardwaj said that they are getting some indications regarding the increase in the cases of Kovid-19, but the health department is fully prepared to deal with any situation.
He said, ‘Last (Wednesday) night, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal called me to discuss regarding the situation of Kovid-19 and he asked me to call an emergency meeting on Thursday. Epidemiologists, genome sequencing experts, Special Secretary (Health) were present in today’s meeting and we analyzed the current situation closely. He said that there is no need to panic as the rate of infection is high.
Sources said Bharadwaj was briefed regarding the hospitalization rate and symptoms of patients. He was informed that genome sequencing of the samples revealed that the XBB variant of the virus and its sub-variant are responsible for the increase in the cases of corona virus infection.
Delhi recorded 377 daily cases of infection on August 31 last year, while the infection rate was 2.58 percent.
New cases of corona virus infection have increased in the city in the last few days amid a rise in cases of influenza sub-variant H3N2 in the country. There was a steady decline in the number of daily cases in Delhi in the last few months. So far, a total of 20,09,361 cases of Kovid-19 infection have been reported in the national capital and 26,526 people have lost their lives.
