“We are no longer dealing with a small incident of theft,” said Johnny Delitte, the manager of the Delbard garden center in Ath.
The store was the victim of a break-in this Friday morning, around 6:10 a.m. “The burglar, not finding the liquidity he wanted, and alerted by the resounding alarm, fled by climbing the fence to reach the Chaussée de Mons. He only stayed in the garden center for a minute,” relates the manager.
The story gets worse once the man reaches the Chaussée de Mons. He attacked a local resident and her son on the way to school, taking their vehicle. “He molested them,” says Johnny Delitte. “They were pushed, threatened. The boy was hit in the eye and my neighbor had injuries to her arms. They were in shock.”
The man driving at high speed was ultimately unable to go far with the stolen car. According to the manager of the garden center, around 6:20 a.m., the burglar crashed his vehicle into the facade of a home in Lens whose occupants had to be relocated following the incident.
Obviously, the perpetrator of these serial misdeeds once once more fled, following rushing into the house.
“Personally, I only suffered material damage,” admits Johnny Delitte. “I feel more sorry for the people who were attacked than for my damage. I am not the biggest aggrieved.”
The garden center nevertheless opened this Friday and Johnny Delitte has already taken matters into his own hands to perfectly re-secure his establishment.
