Attackers attack police vehicle

Dublin: A recent stabbing in Ireland’s capital, Dublin, has sparked a city-wide riot. Yesterday afternoon, there was widespread rioting in Parnell Square East, Dublin, following the stabbing of schoolchildren. The riots were followed by many incidents of violence and casualties. Cars, vans, buses and shops belonging to the Irish police force, the Garda, were destroyed by fire. The riot broke out after a woman and three children were injured in a knife attack in the afternoon.

A group of youths chanting anti-immigration slogans unleashed violence in Dublin, accusing the attacker of being an immigrant. Several Garda officers were injured in the attack. But another peculiarity is that the man who stabbed the women and children was confronted by another Brazilian migrant. Riots broke out near the site of the attack last night. Shops have been widely attacked and looted. Journalists who came to report the incident were also attacked.

More than 400 gardaí from different parts of the country arrived to bring the situation under control after the riots escalated. Garda Commissioner Drew Harris condemned the attack, which saw buses, trams and Luas blocked and traffic disrupted, saying right-wing extremists were not behind the violence. A garda was also attacked, but was not seriously injured. The Garda Commissioner told a press conference that the situation was now under control and that the Gardai were investigating whether the violence was of a terrorist nature.
