After SK Rapid lost the Viennese football derby (0:2) on Sunday in the Generali Arena of Austria, the police reported ten charges under criminal law and 43 charges under administrative law, including in connection with pyrotechnics. Around the beginning of the “rapid quarter hour”, a person on the edge of the field was injured by a firecracker thrown from the second tier of the Alex Reed sector, said police spokesman Philipp Hasslinger on Monday.
The resulting injury, apparently to the face, was treated by paramedics. As Rapid announced on Monday, the person concerned was an employee of the SK Rapid Clubservice. The police filed a complaint once morest initially unknown perpetrators. In the event of identification, Rapid strives for “the application for a nationwide stadium ban, the imposition of an unlimited house ban on its own events and, if it is a club member, the withdrawal of membership”, the Green-Whites said.
After the match, the rioters remained in the Reumannplatz underground station apparently without injuries, although – as can be seen on video material online – pyrotechnics were also ignited there, namely directly on the platform in front of a fully occupied underground train with open doors. A little later there was also smoke in the wagon. As a result, the Wiener Linien had the station cleared and closed for a while, and the football fans had to continue on foot.
Several other U1 stations from Reumannplatz were temporarily closed as a precaution until the Derby visitors had left. Hasslinger said there were no injuries in the subway area. No property damage was reported either.
Previously, property damage was said to have been committed in the stadium during the march, for example in the toilet area. There were no arrests in connection with the derby – the Bundesliga game of the Viennese rivals ended 2-0 for Austria – according to the police spokesman on APA request. There were around 15,200 visitors, including 1,500 Alex Reed fans. (APA/Red)
