Since 2008, the iconic drummer of The Beatles has invited his fans around the world to think, say or post “peace and love” on social media at noon in their local time on every birthday.

This year, Starr’s birthday celebrations took place in more than thirty countries, but only a few of his fans had the chance to see the musician responsible for the song ‘Octopus’s Garden’ up close.

Eduardo Luque, a Mexican Beatles fan, traveled with his children from the city of Querétaro, Mexico, to Los Angeles just to have the chance to see Starr up close once once more.

“My main intention was for my children to be able to live this experience. (Starr) is an 84-year-old person and, although we wish him a long life and I saw him doing very well, he is showing up less and less,” she told EFE.

Luque and dozens of the singer’s fans gathered from ten in the morning in a park in Beverly Hills with the hope of giving Starr a gift, taking a photo with him or having the opportunity to greet him while enduring temperatures of 27 °C under the sun.

“At this point I am older than everyone else,” the drummer told his fans who were excitedly waiting behind a metal fence that marked the area where the event was taking place.

Before noon, artists such as Ben Harper, Steve Dudas, and Willie Watson took the stage, singing songs from Starr’s solo period such as ‘Fastest Growing Heartache in the West’ or ‘Walk With You’, and minutes later his brother Joe Walsh started the countdown to finally say and make the peace and love symbol.

“Happy birthday Ringo!” his guests shouted, and on stage the musician received a large cake while the song ‘Birthday’ from The Beetles’ White Album played in the background.
“I’m going to eat cake in my room all day,” Starr joked.

Starr released ‘Crooked Boy’ in April, an EP with four songs written and produced by Linda Perry in which the musician was able to explore feelings such as sadness and happiness.

And in May, the ex-Beatle embarked on a tour of the United States and Mexico, which is scheduled to end on September 25 at Radio City Music Hall in New York.
