The highway code is far from being the same everywhere. And while we generally think that with our French neighbors, the rules are identical to ours, there are still small exceptions. On the Paris ring road, for example, there is a priority rule that Belgians generally ignore.
Unlike here, on the ring road, incoming traffic has priority over traffic already on the road. A rule well known to the French, but not to the Belgians. This can sometimes lead to sudden braking and therefore represent a danger for motorists.
And the reason for this priority for incoming motorists is that the ring road does not officially have motorway status. A good thing to know if you plan to go to the French capital!
