Riley hits HR and Atlanta shuts out D-backs

PHOENIX — Austin Riley hit a three-run homer, William Contreras had three hits, including two of Atlanta’s five doubles, and the Braves beat the Arizona Diamondbacks 6-0 on Wednesday.

Kyle Wright pitched six scoreless innings for the Braves. Riley’s homer nearly settled what was a tight game in the seventh inning.

The Braves saved the final game of the series and avoided what would have been their first three-game losing streak of the season.

Adam Duvall, Michael Harris II and Cuban Guillermo Heredia hit the other doubles for Atlanta.

Wright (5-3) received more than three supporting runs for the first time this season. He allowed three hits and gave up five walks, in addition to prescribing five strikeouts, in his seventh quality start.

The Braves had scored 16 runs to support Wright in his last nine starts.

Riley’s 13th home run of the season gave the Braves a 5-0 lead.

The loss went to the record of Madison Bumgarner (2-4), who had won all eight of her previous decisions once morest Atlanta.

For the Braves, the Dominican Marcell Ozuna 4-2 with a run scored. The Venezuelan Contreras 5-3 with an RBI. The Cuban Heredia 4-1.

For the Diamondbacks, the Dominicans Ketel Marte 2-1, Geraldo Perdomo 1-0. Venezuelans David Peralta 3-1, José Herrera 3-0.
