Rigoberto Urán was received like a hero following his arrival in Urrao this Friday at regarding 3:40 pm following traveling 165 kilometers from Medellín. With hundreds of people and even a stage included, Mayor Osvaldo Sepúlveda Pérez paid tribute to the Antioquian cyclist.
But the one who stole the eyes when Rigo arrived in his native Urrao was Simón Bermúdez, a four-year-old boy who dreams of being a cyclist “like his idol Rigoberto.”
And it is that Urán is an example to follow for the people of this municipality, the children emulate him on his bike and dream of conquering the European roads just as he has done.
“The boy had been waiting for Rigo for a while because he didn’t know him in person, we went out to the Parque de los Chorritos and as soon as he saw him he jumped, he told me ‘mommy I’m not going to let him beat me,’ said Natalia Restrepo , mother of the minor, to EL COLOMBIANO.
There he followed the pace of the 36-year-old runner and the other 20 cyclists from the Manzana Postobon Cycling Club, while his mother ran following them along the sidewalk.
Before the unexpected, but emotional moment, the urraeños encouraged the little one. “Go Go. Slow down, stop. Take the curve.”
“Happy to be here sharing. What we want is for them to come visit the town. I’ve been here for 20 years, I really need everything, the Penderisco River, going up to the Peseta. Thank you very much for that reception, ”said El Toro urraeño following his arrival.
The next day, Simón had his reunion with his reference, Rigoberto Urán, with whom he took a photo, which will surely help the child to motivate himself and be a great athlete.

Simón has been running since he was two years old, his mother has taken him to compete in Betania, Antioquia, he was also in the Open MTB in Caldas and he always occupies the top positions.
“I want to train by bicycle because I didn’t want to run following a ball,” said Simón.
“For us Urraeños, Rigoberto Urán has a very important meaning because he is a recognized person, he is an example for the children, because they want to imitate him,” said Simón’s mother.
Urán, who is on a short vacation following a season break in the Old Continent, returned to Medellín this Sunday in the followingnoon hours and in 15 days he will rejoin EF Education to run in several Italian classics and end his season.
