There was a brief moment in the history of the internet when Parler was seen by some as a serious alternative to Twitter. With a targeted focus on a right-wing to right-wing extremist clientele and the promise of – allegedly – unrestricted freedom of expression, they hoped to score points. However, some of those addressed in this way took that quite literally and used the platform to prepare attacks on the US Capitol on January 6, 2021.
