In cities like Milan, Madrid, Paris or Rome, the morning rush hour would probably collapse completely without the numerous scooter and motorbike riders. In Germany, politicians are still ignoring the possibilities of motorized two-wheelers as part of the traffic turnaround. But that’s not the only reason why the merger of the European motorcyclists’ associations (FEMA) calls for the “Ride to Work Day” on the third Monday in June. The initiative, which appeals to all motorized two-wheelers to drive to work on June 19, on a motorcycle, scooter or moped, is intended to raise public and political awareness of this type of transport.
Two-wheelers require less traffic space on the street, at least three motorcycles fit in a car parking space, and last but not least, bikers usually come to work much more relaxed than drivers – these are just three aspects that the Federation of European Motorcyclists’ Associations leads into the field. In addition, the “Work to Ride” day should encourage companies to provide small changing areas for their employees who use motorcycles or scooters.
The day of action takes place worldwide. (awm)
