The prospective Medan Mayoral Candidate from the NasDem Party, Rico Waas, ensured that he would provide a large space for artists and literacy activists if given the opportunity to lead the City of Medan, aka win the 2024 Pilkada.
“In the future, we will encourage artists and literacy activists in Medan to have a wider space,” he said after attending a discussion at Literacy Coffee, Jalan Jati II, Medan City, Monday (30/7).
The discussion themed “Meeting of Art and Literacy Experts” was initiated by the Titip Idea Group which was attended by young people who concentrate on art and literacy. The discussion presented Julhendri Chaniago, Avena Matondang, Jhon Fawer Siahaan and Rico Waas as speakers.
According to Rico, spaces for artists and literacy activists are important to create because they have their own way of expressing their love for the city.
“The potential of these artists and literacy activists has a good effect and impact on this city. Their works can attract outsiders to come to Medan. So, they come specifically to see the works of art built in this city,” said Rico.
Rico also said that artists in Medan City have extraordinary thoughts. When talking about literacy, Medan City is even more interesting than other areas because it has so many cultures.

“The way our artists and literacy activists think is very out of the box. Therefore, if given the opportunity to lead, I will ensure that there is a large space for arts and culture activists in Medan City,” said Rico firmly.
Jhon Fawer Siahaan, an art and literacy activist in Medan City, admitted that he was happy because Rico Waas was willing to come and hear the aspirations of artists and literacy activists in Medan City. He hopes that the issues discussed in the discussion can be realized by Rico if he is elected as Mayor of Medan in the future.
“I think, because Bang Rico’s background is in art, maybe he understands our concerns in Medan City. So that all the problems discussed during the discussion can be resolved, because this is our shared ideal,” said the owner of Literacy Coffee.
