Rick Tocchet made his debut behind the Vancouver Canucks bench on Tuesday night. The formation received the Chicago Blackhawks, which gave the coach a good opportunity to start on the right foot.
That’s what happened, as the Hawks went down 5-2. On Tuesday night into Wednesday, the players and coaching staff of the Canucks headed to Seattle to take on the Kraken last night…
And the chain seems to have landed. Yes already.
The Canucks got flushed, washed, overpowered, knocked out (use whatever term you want) and lost the game 6-1. But, it is especially by looking at what happened following the meeting, while Tocchet spoke to the media following the defeat, that it becomes disheartening.
Firstly, Tocchet simply seemed to be speechless regarding his players’ effort. Do I need to remind you that it was coaching only sound second game with the Canucks?

But that’s not all.
To shake up his guys (I guess that was his strategy), Tocchet called his players “soft” following the game. He wasted no time before throwing them under the bus…
And I don’t think that’s necessarily the best solution when you’ve just arrived and you’re trying to get to your locker room. No?
On Tuesday, Rick Tocchet was praising the Canucks. On Wednesday, he called them soft following a 6-1 loss to the Kraken.

Yes, the Canucks played badly. Yes, the players might have deserved to be spoken to in the headset…
But seeing Tocchet come out in public like this when he’s only just been hired by the team has disturbed many, and with good reason. The situation is different since Martin St-Louis has been hired as interim head coach…
But would you have imagined the commotion he would have caused by saying things like that in his second game behind the CH bench? We would still hear regarding it…
And I don’t think Martin would still be the trusted man. Eh eh.
It’s not like Rick Tocchet lands there with huge success as coach neither. He only made the playoffs once as a head coach and lost in the first round while coaching the Coyotes in 2019-20.
Short. All that to say that he might have been able to keep his tongue in his pocket. Especially since we know how much the players loved Bruce Boudreau, while some cried when he left. Or, as I said earlier…
Maybe Tocchet might have waited until he was in the bedroom before criticizing his guys like that. And to add fuel to the fire…
Even though yesterday’s game was being played in Seattle, Kraken fans still found the idea of chanting “Bruce, there it is!” funny. “. Which, actually, is pretty funny, thank you.

– His comments are particularly interesting.
Love that #LAKings coach Todd McLellan pushed back once morest the idea that the #NHL is not a developmental league. Is that a misnomer?
