The Rp 294.5 billion rice import fine is considered to have legal consequences that must be accounted for, reinforced by the existence of 1,600 containers of rice stuck at the port.

“Why does demurrage occur? Administrative, technical negligence or the intention of the import mafia to inflate. If we talk about mafia, then this is not just talking about Bulog, but bigger, namely the mafia across ministries,” said Narasi Institute Director Achmad Nur HIdayat, Thursday, (15/8).

He added that the cross-sector mafia must be held responsible for the legal consequences even though their negligence, whether intentional or not, which resulted in the demurrage or rice import fine of IDR 294.5 billion has been paid.

“Insurance can be because there is a premium paid. Paid by the state. So even though it has been paid by insurance, it does not invalidate the article on negligence, inefficiency of state institutions,” he stressed.

This public policy expert admitted that he was confident that the tracing and investigation related to the demurrage of Rp 294.5 billion by law enforcement officers would be able to open the door to even bigger scandals related to food imports.

“Because this could be the gateway to opening up an even bigger import scandal,” he stressed.
