THE Riau Provincial Government (Pemprov) has officially declared the Riau Province forest and land fire emergency alert status (Karhutla) in 2024.
The Riau Karhutla emergency alert status is determined from March 13 to November 30 2024.
The determination of the Forest and Forestry Emergency Alert status was through a Governor’s Decree which was signed directly by the Acting Governor of Riau SF Hariyanto on March 13 2024.
“Yes, the Decree establishing the Riau Karhutla emergency alert status in 2024 has been signed by the Acting Governor of Riau,” said the Chief Executive (Kalaksa) of the Riau Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD), M Edy Afrizal, Thursday (14/3).
In the decree, it is stated that the determination of the Riau Karhutla emergency alert status was carried out following two regions, namely Dumai City and Bengkalis Regency which had established the same status.
With two regions already having declared forest and land fires alert status, this can become a requirement for establishing a provincial level forest and land fires emergency alert.

He revealed that based on the decree, Riau’s forest and land fires emergency alert status was set for 263 days. Starting from 13 March to 30 November 2024.
“By having this status established, the handling and management of fire disasters in Riau can be maximized. Because currently the Riau coastal area has been hit by summer,” he explained.
Meanwhile, the Mayor of Dumai Paisal denied to Media Indonesia that his region was said to have declared a forest and land fires emergency alert status. The reason is that forest and land fires in the area have so far been safely under control.
“We have not declared an Emergency Alert Status,” said Dumai Mayor Paisal to Media Indonesia, Thursday (14/3).
“It’s okay. Because the Acting (Governor) is new. So be enthusiastic. God willing, Dumai will still be safe. God willing, everything will still be under control,” he concluded. (RK/Z-7)
