Apocalyptic images of Rhodes in flames are circulating around the world. Occurring a week earlier, the fire had forced more than 30,000 people to evacuate the island on Tuesday July 25. Some have to abandon their hotel and their dream vacation while others flee their homes. By sea or by land, tourists and residents are trying to escape the flames. This is the biggest evacuation operation the island has ever seen.
All flights to Rhodes have been suspended and tourists are crowding into airports and ports in an attempt to leave the territory. A total of 266 firefighters are mobilized on site to channel the fires.

Since the beginning of the summer, Greece has experienced record heat waves throughout its territory. Exceeding 40 degrees, some tourist places in the country had to close or restrict their access, such as the Acropolis in Athens.
