A police officer of the DIAS team on the island of Rhodes managed to provide first aid and save a 79-year-old woman, who lived alone in an apartment and who was injured and unable to move.

As rodiaki.gr reports, the incident was made public in a letter to the Regional General Directorate of the South Aegean by the son of the elderly woman, thus publicly thanking the police officer Vasilios Xenofontas for his act which was a lifesaver.

In his letter, the 79-year-old’s son points out:

“With this letter, I would like to publicly express my warm congratulations to the Greek Police, and more specifically to the police officer Vassiliou Xenofontas, who serves in the Rhodes police team, as at the beginning of July and while he was off duty, he was informed in the morning from residents of the apartment building where my 79-year-old mother P. S. lives that she was calling for help.

Immediately the policeman, passing from balcony to balcony, managed to find himself in my mother’s first floor apartment and enter through an unsecured kitchen window, where he found her in the hallway of her house, having fallen with a broken hip, unable to reach the phone and to call for help as I was outside Greece. Finally he offered her first aid and called an ambulance station to transport her to the general hospital of Rhodes.
