Immunoglobulin G (or IG) antibodies play a driving role in inflammation in infectious and autoimmune diseases. However, if these same antibodies, taken from the blood of healthy donors, are cleaned and injected into the bloodstream of a patient with rheumatoid arthritis, they therefore have the opposite effect. They become anti-inflammatory. The cause of this mechanism was previously unknown. Researchers have just discovered that these antibodies from healthy donors are able to suppress a central self-destructive process of rheumatoid arthritis: the degeneration and remodeling of bone and cartilage tissue in the joints. The results of the study show how this process is suppressed at the molecular level by antibodies. What surprised scientists the most was that molecules generally associated with the fight once morest pathogens such as bacteria and fungi play a central role in the anti-inflammatory effect of these antibodies…
