AFTER releasing her latest single Going Up on October 4 2024, the German-Indonesian solo singer, Rhea Asmara, continues the momentum by releasing her official music video (MV) on October 11 2024 on her YouTube channel.

The Going Up music video was directed by Barnabas Chua, a renowned director from Singapore who is known for his visually stunning works.

In the MV Going Up, Rhea displays a fierce and energetic appearance, while also showing her impressive dancing skills.

Filming was carried out in several iconic locations in Singapore, providing an interesting visual touch.

One of the moments that stands out is when Rhea dances and sings in the lift, which symbolizes her journey towards self-empowerment.

The song itself is a blend of R&B and afrobeats, creating a motivating and uplifting atmosphere.

Rhea’s energetic choreography and strong presence in the video further emphasize the message of empowerment conveyed through Going Up.

Going Up creative process

Rhea explained that her collaboration with Kamga Mohammed in creating Going Up went very smoothly and was fun.

“It feels like Kamga and I were in sync when working on this song. We both wanted to make something that could not only make people move, but also provide positive encouragement,” said Rhea.

Kamga also said that working with Rhea felt like a holiday, thanks to the strong chemistry during the songwriting process.

The song was recorded at Roemah Iponk under the direction of Ivan Gojaya, who was also responsible for mixing and mastering.

According to Rhea, the positive atmosphere in the studio and the support from those closest to her, including her mother who was always by her side, made this recording experience very memorable.

Exclusive Listening Party di Swee Lee Clarke Quay

Before the official release of the Going Up MV, Rhea held an Exclusive Listening Party on October 10 2024 at Swee Lee Clarke Quay, Singapore.

This event was attended by fans, fellow musicians, and music industry professionals who had the first opportunity to watch the premiere of the MV Going Up.

Apart from playing the MV, Rhea also performed three songs in acoustic format, creating a more intimate and personal atmosphere for the audience.

During the event, Rhea also spoke with Barnabas Chua about the creative process behind making music videos.

Barnabas revealed that the Going Up MV was designed to show Rhea’s more mature and strong artistic side.

“I want to highlight Rhea’s fierce personality, with visuals that depict her emotional journey and strength as a woman,” explained Barnabas.

Achievements in Spotify Playlists throughout Asia

Since its release, the single Going Up has managed to penetrate various prestigious playlists on Spotify.

This song is included in the New Music Friday playlist in several Asian countries, including Indonesia, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, the Philippines, South Korea, Vietnam, Hong Kong and Taiwan.

Apart from that, this song also appears on editorial playlists such as Poses, Women of Indonesia, Pop Rising Indonesia, OTW, Ke Seberang, and is the cover for the Fresh Finds Indonesia playlist.

This achievement marks a big step in Rhea’s career, who only made her debut in February 2024.
