Rezig inaugurates the 1st edition of “Packaging Expo”

ALGIERS- Minister of Trade and Export Promotion, Kamel Rezig inaugurated, on Sunday in Algiers, the first edition of the Packaging Expo for Algerian products intended for export. organized at the “Safex” exhibition center in the maritime pines with the participation of nearly 50 companies active in this field from different regions of the country.

On this occasion, Mr. Rezig said that this economic event organized by the National Agency for the Promotion of Foreign Trade (Algex), constituted “an opportunity to make known the materials and techniques used in packaging, packaging and packaging, in addition to strengthening this industry, encouraging investment and increasing the added value and quality of Algerian products intended for export”.

Packaging is of “major importance” in marketing products locally and internationally, giving it a competitive edge in overseas markets where food packaging requirements are strict,” he added.

Mr. Rezig also specified that Algeria’s exports in terms of conditioning and packaging products had reached 42 million dollars in 2021 and during the first 11 months of 2022, i.e. 21 million dollars / month. .

With regard to plastic packaging and packaging products, the Minister pointed out that exports in this area had increased by 36% (nearly 9 million dollars), while exports of packaging and packaging products paper and paperboard packaging had climbed to $4.5 million.

It was proceeded, according to him, to the export of packaging products made of wood, cork, glass, metal, in addition to bottles, boxes among other products.

The products in question were exported to 57 countries, led by Tunisia (53%), Libya (5%) and Turkey (5%), which increased the financial income of more than 150 companies active in this sector.

The manager responsible for managing ALGEX, Houari Abdellatif, told APS that it was planned, within the framework of the Fair which will run from February 12 to 15, to organize meetings bringing together “exporters in this sector and the representatives of public bodies to listen to their concerns and proposals with a view to better taking them into account”, adding that an invitation was sent to representatives of the diplomatic corps accredited in Algeria to inquire regarding Algerian products specific to this sector. sector.

The opening of the Fair took place in the presence of the Director General of the Algerian Agency for the Promotion of Investment (AAPI), Omar Rekkache, the Secretary General of the General Union of Algerian Tradesmen and Craftsmen (UGCAA), Hazab Benchahra and representatives of several ministerial sectors, public authorities, professional associations and employers.
