While Les Bleues are playing in the quarter-finals of the World Cup in Australia, in France, women’s football is gaining momentum, especially in amateur clubs. In the Nantes vineyards, the Loroux Canton women’s football group was created 10 years ago, long before this craze. This is a women’s section which brings together players from several clubs in the communes around Divatte-sur-Loire. And since its creation, the GFLC has evolved, as has our view of women’s football.

They were regarding twenty players ten years ago. Today, there are 160 at GF Loroux Canton. And even if some clichés die hard, things have still changed a lot over the years, recognize the players. “Me, in my time, parents did not want to sign their daughters for football because it was not a sport for girls”remembers Laetitia, one of the supervisors who started football almost 40 years ago.

Today, the club has ten women’s teams, around thirty coachesand got structured. “Our coaches, before, were dads! Last season, the Seniors have moved up to the first departmental division. This year, they are aiming for the regional championship.
