The elected officials approved an additional police regulation with a view to the creation of a 30 km/h zone in the North/South axis of the town center of Comines, with modification of priority in the crossroads formed by the streets of Fort and windmills. Even if implementation is not planned for immediately, it will be quite a revolution for traffic!

The port road, main entrance
We must also encourage the use of the port road: “The latter must become the main entrance to Comines. However, it leads into rue des Moulins, which will be placed at 30 km/h and will have priority in its exit to rue du Fort, with a stop sign or a give way towards the bridge“.
Before implementing these measures, adaptations are necessary, particularly in terms of video surveillance.
After debate, the point was divided into two votes, with unanimity for zone 30. Regarding the change of priority, the Action group voted against. Rationale from Charlotte Gruson: “This will create traffic jams, as currently in the station area. The problem will be moved“. Negative vote for the PS and abstention for alderman Clémentine Vandenbroucke.
Le Bizet: serenity in the center
Le Bizet also passes into a 30 km/h zone. for all central streets. Here too, surveys were carried out in March/April 2022: 3161 vehicles/day, at an average speed of 37 km/h. In February 2022: 6027 vehicles/day, at 31 km/h. The aim is to increase bicycle safety, but also to bring serenity to the center where there are many cafes and shops. Unanimous vote.
Note also that rue de la Victoire and rue d’Orléans will keep the current direction. Since last June, a test has been carried out with reversal of one-way directions. This system has been approved and will therefore be perpetuated. Positive vote from the majority and Clémentine Vandenbroucke. Negative vote from the Action group, justified by the dangerousness of this change.
