“Corte finally has his place within the chessboard in terms of public health”, proudly launches Ghjiseppu Zuccarelli, care manager, head of the hospital’s ambulatory and imaging department. Functional for ten months, the long-awaited and hoped-for scanner, had become, over the years, the object of a long-standing claim because of the decade that passed before it saw the light of day. “The collective that had been formed worked a lot for its installation”recalls the care setting.
Almost a year following the establishment of the Grail, “the mission is more than fulfilled”, believes today Ghjiseppu Zuccarelli. At the start of the summer season, during which an increase in attendance for scanner-related examinations is expected, the manager takes stock of the arrival of this major tool, “new doctors stethoscope”.
“Mutual Relief”
“Having the scanner is a chance for faster care and diagnosis, asks the head of the imaging division right away. Now it only takes thirty minutes, whereas before it took hours, including the journey to Bastia and the wait there.” A not insignificant fact “for the elderly that it was very tiring”but also “for working people who sometimes had to take a whole day off just to get a CT scan”.
In addition to this sometimes decisive time saving, there is a bonus in terms of well-being. This well-being is also that of the doctors of the neighboring hospitals, whose imaging or emergency services, already under strain, welcomed the population of the micro-region. “From now on, we are gaining independence in terms of examinations and above all, this makes it possible to relieve the hospitals of Bastia, Calvi and Ghisonaccia in terms of patient flow and reduce waiting times”, exposes Giuseppe Zuccarelli. He evokes thus “mutual relief”
Advantageous deadlines
Another advantage and not the least: the deadlines. “Here, the population pool is more limited so inevitably, our deadlines are shorter.” Concretely, a person who requests an appointment for a standard examination obtains it “within five to seven days”. “Elsewhere, it is sometimes several months…” So, at times, the trend is reversed: “For example, we sometimes receive patients from Ajaccio who go up to Corte to have the scanner“says the head of the imaging division.
The arrival of the scanner, “essential for the territory, the elderly population but also the large proportion of young people who live there with the University”came to reinforce the “local hospital” label with which the establishment is endowed. “This allows us to have a major place among the hospitals of Corsica.” concluded Giuseppe Zuccarelli.
