NVIDIA App is here
Replaces WinXP style Control Panel
Text: Editorial Department/News Center
NVIDIA’s drivers have always been one of the main selling points of GeForce graphics cards for their excellent performance and stable game compatibility, and have therefore been praised by many PC gamers. However, even the most loyal NVIDIA fans get upset when people mention the NVIDIA Control Panel. In fact, the interface of this control panel has not changed in 18 years since the Forceware 83.60 driver was first introduced in 2006.
Although there is a saying in the programming world: “If the code works fine, don’t touch it!”, the interface of Control Panel still retains the Sedona UI style of Windows XP. Both the interface design and functions have been driven by AMD. The program is completely beyond. Finally, even NVIDIA itself mightn’t stand it anymore and decided to modernize and unify the old Control Panel, GeForce Experience and RTX Experience, and replace them with the new NVIDIA App.
NVIDIA plans to merge the Control Panel, GeForce Experience and RTX Experience into one program. In the future, NVIDIA graphics card users only need to download the NVIDIA App, which will automatically install or update the driver and provide a unified GPU control center, including the latest game software. Optimized settings and redesigned game overlays provide easy access to powerful game recording tools, performance monitoring, game enhancement filters, and more.
Currently, the NVIDIA App is still in the Beta stage. Looking forward to the future, NVIDIA will integrate other functions of the Control Panel, including display and video settings, and provide GPU overclocking functions. At the same time, some GeForce Experience and RTX Experience functions will also be integrated into the NVIDIA App. GeForce Experience and Control Panel will remain available during the NVIDIA App’s beta testing period until the NVIDIA App is feature mature.
This is the main screen of the new NVIDIA App. The design is very similar to GeForce Experience. Users can launch games and GPU-related applications from the library. The applications provided by NVIDIA are introduced below, such as GeForce Now, NVIDIA Broadcast, NVIDIA Omniverse, NVIDIA Canvas and ICAT can be installed automatically by just clicking “Get”, which is very convenient.
The driver page of the NVIDIA App will provide users with information regarding the latest Game Ready drivers and Studio drivers, allowing NVIDIA graphics card users to learn regarding the contents of the latest driver updates in a faster and more direct way. In the driver page, “What’s New” and “What’s Fixed” information and a list of newly supported games have been added, and the content interface is simple and intuitive.
NVIDIA has ported some of the GPU graphics wide-area settings in the Control Panel interface to the NVIDIA App. Users can modify them in the graphics page. The global configuration files are used in all games and applications.
In addition, NVIDIA has also ported the game optimization function of GeForce Expreience into the NVIDIA App. The program will automatically detect the games and applications supported by the system, and will optimize the game for different games and applications based on different GPU models. Provides optimized settings, which is quite convenient.
Redesigned In-Game Overlay
The NVIDIA App application has added a newly designed In-Game Overlay function. Press Alt + Z Key to quickly access Shadowplay recording tools, Freestyle game filters, NVIDIA highlights, photo modes and performance monitoring tools.
The NVIDIA App also provides a new GPU performance monitoring feature. Gamers can now customize how the performance overlay is displayed during gameplay, with options to minimize the HUD footprint.
Additionally, gamers can now customize the performance metrics they want to see during gameplay. Just press Alt + R to toggle performance monitoring statistics.
ShadowPlay 120 FPS recording function
NVIDIA App also introduces Shadowplay 120 FPS image capture function, allowing players to easily record high-quality game videos. Supporting 120 FPS brings the smoothness of recorded content to a new level.
New AI game filter function
NVIDIA App has added a new AI game filter function, providing a total of 21 real-time filters. Among them, RTX HDR and RTX Dynamic Vibrance filters use AI computing technology and are accelerated by Tensor Core on GeForce RTX GPU. If you are interested, you may wish to Download it to test it out.
What’s Next !?
Going forward, the NVIDIA App will integrate the rest of the Control Panel, including display and video settings, and integrate features from GeForce Experience and RTX Experience. However, not all features will be ported, and NVIDIA will discontinue some underutilized features. It is now known that the next version will add AV1 recording function. If you want to try the NVIDIA App, the editor has provided a Beta version for you to play, but do so at your own risk.
